ideology in film?

"There is truth, and there are lies, and art always tells the truth. Even when it's lying."
~ spoken by the character Craig in Being John Malkovich

So ... a self-enclosed non-reflexive diagesis still tells the "truth?" I think Dana Polan would agree with this while the Apparatus theorist wouldn't. Berthold Brecht would aggree? I think he would because he insisted that identity/absorption is required to gain the symphathy of the specator for the play's message and identity in theatre or film is one of art's lies because its an illiusion.
